BURA Student (High Speed Video and Strike Kinematics)
Kinematics and physics of the mantis shrimp strike
Dave is a biology major in his sophomore year of college. He is interested in all marine invertebrates, but finds Stomatopods particularly interesting due to their extreme movements. He studies the spearing species Coronis scolopendra. He is using high speed video as well as CT-scans to gain an understanding of the kinematics of the strike and how it relates to the morphology. Dave is also an avid scuba diver and spends as much time as he can underwater searching for mantis shrimp and other intriguing organisms.
